D.A.R.E./Teacher Grant Press Release

The Logan Elm Education Foundation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 8, 2011

The Logan Elm Education Foundation (LEEF) is pleased to formally announce a donation in the amount of $800.00 to The Logan Elm School District to help sponsor the D.A.R.E. program. The Drug Abuse Resistance Education program is taught to 6th graders at each elementary, and also, to all 7th graders at the McDowell Exchange School.

The mission of the Logan Elm Education Foundation is to enhance learning by engaging the community and it will support innovative programs, partnerships and collaborations to improve the quality of education for all children in the Logan Elm School District. The D.A.R.E. program impacts each and every student at LE.

Since it’s creation in 2009, LEEF has also awarded 5 teacher grants and 3 scholarships to graduating seniors. Most recently, the 2011-2012 teacher grant winners have been announced. The first is Christina Sykes with a proposal entitled, “Anatomy Literacy.” Ms. Sykes teaches anatomy to upper level students and will use the grant to incorporate non-fiction books and career choices into her lesson plans. The second grant has been awarded to Heidi Woods, Jim McGuire and Jayne Stevenson with a proposal of “Laurelville Links.” These teachers will use the grant for students in grades 4th through 6th to create news bits that will be placed around Laurelville in 2 sided acrylic displays.

The Foundation has many goals including providing the Logan Elm community an opportunity to partner with the Logan Elm School District Board of Education in a common goal to enrich learning. It is the hope of the LEEF that this Foundation will provide an outlet for community members to make donations that will further the education of both the students and the community members of the Logan Elm School District.

L.E.E.F. will be sponsoring the first Logan Elm All Alumni Reunion on 9/10/11 at the Logan Elm campus. This family tailgate style event is open to all LE alums and will begin at 5:00PM. Join us for food, music and fun. Check out our website for additional information!
